Iraq, Military, 1/21/2005

In a new outcome for the military operations which has been witnessing notable increase with the approaching date of the general elections due on January 30th, the Iraqi police announced the killing of seven persons including 6 Iraqi soldiers in three attacks in Samera city.

Police sources there confirmed the killing of four Iraqi soldiers and injuring of other four in a bomb explosion that targeted a vehicle for the Iraqi arm in the downtown of the city.

According to the source, the explosion led to the destruction of two vehicles manned by the Iraqi soldiers, noting that clashes took place between the soldiers and a group of gunmen following the explosion.

Two other Iraqi soldiers were killed and other four were injured in a mortar explosion on Wednesday evening when their vehicle was running near the city which is situated 125 km to the north of the capital Baghdad.

In a separate incident, one Turkish truck driver was killed and his truck was burnt when gunmen fired anti- armored vehicles missiles and opened fire at convoys including Turkish trucks.

On the other hand, Sheikh Khalil al-Sameraa of the Muslim Scholars Commission in Salah Eddine accused the America army of destroying two schools for teaching Koran during the two past days.

The Muslim Scholars Commission condemned this act and described it as "an insult for Islam," while the America army justified this action to that its soldiers were exposed to fire from two buildings close from the military base in the downtown of Samera city.
