Palestine-Israel, Politics, 1/19/2005
Palestinian Authority President Mamud Abbas met Monday with The Geneva Initiative leaders, Yossi Beilin, MKs Amram Mizna, Yuli Tamir and Haim Oron, and former Knesset Speaker Avraham Burg along with Yasser Abed Rabu the architect of the Geneva Initiative, in which Abbas called for an end to violance.
Palestinian groups unanimously agreed to reject the call made by Abbas to demilitarize resistance against Israel. The rejection was made before the visit of Abbas to Gaza yesterday, hoping to reach an agreement to this effect.
Prior to the visit the, Islamic resistance meeting ( Hamas) said " it will confirm its rejection for such calls "to halt resistance." The spokesman for the movement Mushir al-Masri said "we will concentrate on the national unity and the resistance program as well as arranging the Palestinian house."
The Islamic Jihad movement indicated it will assure its right to resistance during its meeting with Abbas. One of the movement's leaders Muhammad al-Hindi said "we will listen to Abu Mazin to see what he wants" and then we will define our position.
Al-Aqsa groups in Jenin refused its forces to be rallied under the ranks of the Palestinian security forces, stressing attachment to resistance as an option until the end of occupation.
