Mubarak rejects settling the Palestinians in al-Ghardaqa
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 1/18/2005

Egypt has refused a proposal to settle the Palestinians in al-Ghardaqa desert on the Red Sea in return for a generous financial deal.

News reports in Cairo said that the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak refused the financial offer though he described it as "generous." On the other hand, the Egyptian president accused in a close door meeting with several intellectuals and journalists, foreign forces -- he did not specify -- of allocating $ 70 million to affect the comming elections in the country.

During the meeting, Mubarak denied any intention to amend the constitution, justifying that these foreign forces seek to interfere in the Egyptian affairs via the gate of "amending the constitution."
