Syria: Aktham Nueiseh trial adjourned until April
Syria, Politics, 1/17/2005

The Supreme state security court in Syria yesterday adjourned the trial of the activist in human rights Aktham Nueiseh, who is accused of "opposing the objectives of the revolution," until April 4, while Nueiseh called on the Syrian authorities to stop his trial.

Lawyer Anwar al-Bunni said "the supreme state security court adjourned the trial of activist Aktham Nueiseh," because the main judge in the court was not replaced, as a matter of normal rotation of the seat of the judge.

The session was attended by the French Lawyer Emanuel Alty as an observers for the two organizations of defending human rights and sans frontiers. Nueiseh described the trial as a scandal. He said that the supreme security court is "unconstitutional," considering that the court is deceiving to issue a verdict.
