Lebanese foreign minister and resolution 1559
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 1/17/2005
Lebanese Foreign Minister Mahmoud Hammoud said the UN resolution 1559 is based on several paradoxes, and it is considered as an intervention in the Lebanese internal affairs as well as in the Syrian-Lebanese relations.
"Syria has offered a lot to Lebanon, backed its security and stability ... Syria and Lebanon are linked by a number of agreements and treaties," Minister Hammoud told Jordanian al-Dustour Newspaper on Sunday. He denied any foreign intervention in the forthcoming parliamentary elections, adding that raising doubts over honesty of elections harms Lebanon's reputation and its democratic atmosphere.
