Mubarak: I will remain in authority if the Egyptians want

The Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said he will abide by the will of his people if the Egyptians want him to stay in power, stressing in a TV interview that his job requires tremendous efforts.

In the course of the current controversy on extending Mubarak's term of office, the Egyptian opposition parties renewed demand for political reforms, prior to economic reforms. This is few days before the beginning of dialogue with the ruling national party.

In the same context, Jamal Mubarak, son of the Egyptian president denied that his father "winning of the elections will be certain," adding that measures for his nomination have not started yet.

Jamal who presides over the policies committee of the strong influence in the ruling democratic party in Egypt explained that there are certain measures and timing set by the law for starting nomination for the elections, noting that the decision for nomination or not and the beginning of the election campaign is decided by President Mubarak himself.

Worthy mentioning that Mubarak was elected for four Presidential terms each is six year period. He is the third president for Egypt to assume this post by a referendum since the July 1952 revolution. Jamal Abdul Nasser and Anwar al-Sadat preceded him to that.
