Continued series of killings in Iraq

Armed conflicts and booby trapped cars series continued in various parts of the Iraqi cities and this resulted in killing and wounding of many people, while preparations are underway for the Iraqi elections due on January 30th.
"Al-Jihad organization in Bilad al-Rafeydeen ( Mesopotamia )" led by the Jordanian Musab al-Zarqawi claimed responsibility for the attack which targeted the American forces in al-Ramadi to the west of Baghdad.
Earlier the American army announced the killing of one American soldier in al-Anbar governorate.
Gunmen in the Industrial city in Baqouba assassinated yesterday the director of the municipal services and the attack resulted in injuring two of his friends. A camp including 600 Japanese soldiers was exposed to bombardment by mortar shelling.
In another development, the American army announced yesterday it detained six persons suspected to be involved in the assassination of the governor of Baghdad Ali al- Haidari on January 4th.
Meantime, A statement by the American army said yesterday that one American soldier was killed during the operation carried out by the army in al-Anbar governorate to the west of Iraq. The army gave no more details.
Another statement by the army said that three members of the Iraqi national guards were killed in an attack launched by gunmen in al-Mansour quarters in Baghdad.
Acts of violence continued in Iraq with the killing of at least 16 persons in two explosions and holding of trucks carrying new Iraqi currencies.
In Tikrit to the north of Baghdad, seven Iraqi police men were killed at least in an attack by a booby trapped car that targeted their leadership; while 8 persons were killed in an attack that took place in al-Yousefeyah city to the south of Baghdad. Six soldiers of the Iraqi national guard were killed in Sameraa city to the north of the capital.
A high ranking official in the police was killed when a booby trapped car went off led by one suicidor near the higher commission for the elections in Basra city to the south of Iraq.
In Karkouk, gunmen attacked an oil pipeline linking this city to Beji town and set fire in it in the most recent attack targeting oil infrastructure.
