An international human rights award for Aktham Nueisah

Chairman of the committee in defending democratic freedoms and human rights in Syria, Aktham Nueisah, who will be tried in Syria next week will be tried under the charge of weakening the psychology of the nation, was given yesterday an international prize in the human rights field.
The 11 human rights organizations which compose the structure of the Jury commission specialized in giving Martin Evans annual awards for defenders of human rights chose unanimously Aktham Nueisah.
In a statement concerning the prize which is named after the first secretary general of the Amnesty International, the organization which takes Switzerland as a headquarters said that Nueisah reflected the democratic spirit in Syria through his struggle for 30 years.
The organization said that Nueisah's will be brought before the court on January 16 over accusation of "opposing the goals of the revolution" and "disseminating false information aiming to weaken the psychology of the nation," noting that he is facing a 15 year imprisonment penalty.
The organization explained that Nueisah was jailed for 6 times over demanding honoring human rights and he was exposed to separate imprisonment and torture.
