After the killing of two policemen in Houli, Kuwait chases wanted, America warns its citizens
Kuwait-USA, Local, 1/12/2005

Once again, the American embassy in Kuwait warned its citizens to be cautious from likely attacks, while the security forces are launching a security campaign to arrest wanted persons suspected to have links to al-Qaida organization.

In a statement, the embassy said that the Kuwaiti authorities are still searching for a dangerous gunman who might be a member in a large organization planning to launch attacks against American and western citizens.

However, the British and French embassies in Kuwait had warned their citizens during last weeks of the possibilities of being exposed to attacks.

The warning came after the killing of two policemen and injuring other two in a clash with gunmen in Houli area. The clash took place while the police forces were chasing one wanted man called Fawaz al-Oteibi who died because of his wounds.

The clashes which took place near a building sheltering senior security officials came at a time when Kuwait reinforced security arrangements in the main points in its cities following the increase of intelligence reports on likely attacks.

Security sources said that the authorities launched a campaign to "chase a group of 2 to 3 persons who fled in a white car following clashes with the security forces in Houli area."

On the other hand, the Kuwaiti minister of the interior Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah held on Tuesday evening a special meeting with senior security officials during which he called for firm reaction towards what he called terrorists.

So far a group of more than 20 Kuwaiti persons were tried under the charge of planning to launch attacks against the American forces in Iraq and Kuwait.

Some 25,000 American soldiers are deployed in Kuwait where some other 12,000 American civilians are also stationed, in addition to 9,000 Australians.
