Palestinian authority starts reform, Abbas prepares to take oath

The Palestinian Authority started in the second day for the accession of the Fatah Movement candidate Mahmoud Abbas for the presidency by taking a series of measures aiming at maintaining reforms for sites of corruption in the officials Palestinian establishments.

In this regard, the Palestinian Authority disclosed a reform plan for the security forces. The draft law to reform the national security council assigns the prime minister responsibility for it instead of the chairman of the Palestinian Authority.

According to this draft law, which will be submitted for the Legislative council for ratification, the number of security department decreased from 11 to 3, which are the general security, the general intelligence and the national security.

The new draft law authorizes the Cabinet to add several security and political potentials of specialized cadres not to exceed five members. Among the the new missions of the council is the formulation of the general security policies, defining security missions of the Palestinian national authority, according to the requirements of the phase.

The conflict to control the security department resulted in the deterioration of relations between Abbas and the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat as well as between Arafat and Ahmad Qurei which succeeded Abbas in presiding over the Cabinet.
