El Guerrouj hopes to win gold medals in 1,500m and 5,000m in 2005 in Helsinki

Double Olympic champion, Hicham El Guerrouj said he aims at winning the 1,500m and 5,000m races gold medals in 2005 at the Helsinki track and field games.

El Guerrouj, who made the statement on Monday in Paris, where he is to sign a contract with a renowned French cheese company, also said he will try to negotiate a record in the 5,000m race.

The double gold at the Athens 2004 Olympics said he was not sure he would be competing in a cross court event, adding his decision could be made within 10 or 15 days of this race.

The Moroccan sportsman, elected best athlete by the French daily "Le journal du Dimanche" and for the ninth time best athlete in Morocco, he will be starting working out next week in the central town of Ifrane, in the Atlas Mountains, on condition of fine weather.

El Guerrouj also hopes to enter the Olympic games in 2008 in China.
