Mubarak and the presidential elections in Egypt
Egypt, Politics, 1/10/2005

President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt has welcomed the nomination of Egyptian figures for the presidential elections due to be held in Autumn this year and he warned those who are ambitious to this post that "its occupants will get sick in his health, time and nerves" and job will keep him as a detainee."

He considered that the Copts are an integral part of the Egyptian society, calling on the new Palestinian president to be "reasonable." Mubarak was asked in a telephone call by a TV program on Saturday evening on the announcement made by three Egyptian intellectuals Nawal al-Sadawi, Saad Eddine Ibrahim and Muhammad Fareed Hasanin their nomination for the elections, and he answered "they are welcomed, this is real democracy, even if the candidates numbered hundreds I will not be sad."

On the issue of the Palestinian elections, the Egyptian president said "behavior should be logical; yes you as a Palestinian can launch a missile kills two Israelis or three of them but the second day the Israeli army launches an attack by helicopters to destroy houses and kill 20 or 30 Palestinians."

He said that Iraq has "the Kurds, the Sunni and the Shiite and each is fighting each other. I do hope that the elections will be held in its due time and that all trends should take part in it, because there is a fear that if one side is not taking part, matters will end in continued violence."
