Kerry: common fears and interests with Syria; al-Assad stresses dialogue with Washington

During his meeting with the former candidate for the American presidency in Damascus on Saturday, President Bashar al-Assad stressed the importance of "dialogue" between Syria and the USA, while Kerry indicated that he had discussed with the Syrian officials the situation in Lebanon and Iraq, the mass destruction weapons and the war against terrorism.
The Syrian official news agency SANA said that during the meeting between al-Assad and Kerry discussions dealt on the "importance of achieving just and comprehensive peace and its impact on establishing peace and stability in the Middle East." The meeting also dealt with the "question of terrorism and means of fighting it and the need of evacuating the Middle East from mass destruction weapons."
During the meeting, stress was laid on "the importance of making the elections in democratic atmospheres and the need of the participation of all Iraqi people so as to ensure Iraq's independence and sovereignty." SANA quoted the Syrian president as asserting "the importance of dialogue between the two sides in all debated matters especially issued of mutual concern.," noting that the two sides reviewed "bilateral relations and the importance of finding out the common indicators for enhancing them in all fields."
