One American, five Iraqis killed in Baghdad; US attacks a civilian house
Iraq, Military, 1/10/2005

In a statement, the American army said that one of its soldiers was killed in a bomb explosion while one American vehicle was running in one of the main roads in the capital Baghdad.

The statement said that the attack took place at 9 a.m. in the morning ( local time) after the military vehicle collided with a land mine.

By the killing of this soldier, the number of Americans killed increased to more than 1350 since the eruption of the war against Iraq in march 2003.

In another development, at least five Iraqis were killed including two policemen and three civilians when American soldiers opened fire on them after their vehicle collided by a land mine at one of the inspection check point to the south of the capital Baghdad.

The incident took place on Saturday evening near al-Yousefeyah checkpoint, 15 km to the south of Baghdad, according to a spokesman for the Iraqi ministry of the Interior. The American army says it is investigating the incident.

The American army also admitted on Saturday evening that it mistakenly dropped a bomb of 155 kg weight at a house to the north of al-Musil city and this resulted in killing five civilians, while the owner of the house said that the bomb killed 14 persons including 7 children at least and women in a raid carried out by an American F-16 plane.

The owner of the house said that the American forces permitted removal of those killed only hours after the raid.

This massacre came at a time when American and Iraqi reinforcement started to flow into Msuil city, the third largest Iraqi city in the north in preparations to what seems to the launch of a large scale attack against armed men in it.

In al-Mahawil to the south of Baghdad, at least one person was killed and other 20 injured in a booby trapped car explosion, while the Iraqi police announced that one member in Basra governorate council to the south of the country was slightly injured in the attack, while two of his personal guards were injured and other two killed.

On the other hand, the interim Iraqi government stressed that 60,000 persons from Falluja people returned back to their houses, noting that all people of the city will return back to it within one week.
