Egypt denies conducting nuclear tests in Turkey
Egypt, Politics, 1/8/2005

Egypt doesn't own any nuclear program for military purposes, a senior Egyptian diplomat told a Turkish newspaper yesterday.

The diplomat, who spoke on condition of anonymity, denied reports alleging that Egypt was conducting nuclear tests in Turkey.

The Washington Post carried an article claiming that Egyptian scientists carried nuclear experiments in Turkey and France during the 1970s and 1980s.

"The main aim behind such allegations is besieging and oppressing Egypt," the diplomat told "Zaman" newspaper.

The paper pointed out that the Egyptian government was reacting harshly to the recent claims making headlines around the world that it had improved its nuclear program for military use.

"These claims were made intentionally. Egypt never had nuclear military programs nor conducted joint experiments with key or any other country," the diplomat said.
