Abbas abrogates campaigning in east Jerusalem

Chairman of the PLO Mahmoud Abbas yesterday abrogated an election tour in East Jerusalem so as not to appear surrounded by the Israeli security men. A matter which may give a negative image about him with voters, especially as the occupation authorities had prevented the late Palestinian president Yasser Arafat from going there.
As an alternative measure, Abbas continued yesterday his election campaign in visiting towns adjoining Jerusalem especially al-Raam and Pierre Nabal in the West Bank.
Meantime, members of the Jewish religious national party ( MIFDAL) announced a plan to obstruct the process of the Palestinian elections in East Jerusalem, which will be carried out via the Israeli mail boxes.
