Doha is the headquarters for the human rights regional office

Qatar announced it hosts the UN regional office for human rights recently established to cover southern west Asia and the Arab region.

Qatar's minister of state for foreign affairs Ahmad bin Abdullah al Mahmoud said in a press conference "the practical steps for this headquarters will be in October," noting that "the center's specialization will cover southern west Asia and the Arab region.

The minister said that his country's hosting of this regional center falls in the course of Qatar's interests in human rights and cooperation with the UN and affiliated organizations in this regard.

The new regional center aims at achieving 6 targets especially integrating international standards for human rights to local legislations, encouraging countries to ratify international agreements on human rights.

The center will also enhance and strengthen the government's establishments efficiency and concerned bodies in judiciary area especially parliamentarians, judges, attorney generals, police and prison administrations to protect human rights.
