On the Palestinian presidential elections
Palestine, Politics, 1/1/2005

With the beginning of the countdown for the Palestinian presidential elections due on January 9th, the chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Mahmoud Abbas said he will continue the path perused by the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat "until liberation and the foundation of a Palestinian state."

In a rally on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of launching Fatah, inaugurating his election campaign, Abbas said "we will continue his pledge till ultimate liberation and we will continue loyalty to the message of Arafat to establish the independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as a capital and of eliminating occupation, the settlement, the racial war and the right of the refugees to return back home."

Abbas is seeking to mobilize his supporters before the Palestinian presidential elections due on January 9th. His campaign in Gaza seemed not to be easy after the call advocated by Hamas and the Islamic Jihad who enjoy vast popularity to boycott these elections.

The Palestine liberation front, one of the PLO group called for supporting Abbas in the elections.
