Citizens urged to take part in elections; on the file of kidnapped in Iraq

In Karkouk, the Iraqi police announced the detention of the Major in the former Iraqi intelligence, Khalaf Ali Hammoud, who is suspected of leading one of the armed cells inside the city.

Karkouk police chief Maj. Gen. Sarhad Qader said that the said man was wanted by the American and Iraqi forces since a while over his participation in attacks against the Iraqi police forces.

In Baghdad, an explosion took place on Thursday morning found to be a result of fuel tank burning.

On the other hand, a source in the Iraqi police said that unidentified gunmen kidnapped on Wednesday two Lebanese businessmen. They are Hassan Abu Muhammad and al-Haj Qasem in al-Mansour quarters in Baghdad and took them to an unknown destination.

The source explained that the kidnappers roped the guard of the contracting company which is owned by the two Lebanese and held him in the bathroom before kidnapping the two businessmen.

Worthy mentioning that three Lebanese were killed in Baghdad during a kidnapping attempt while other 30 including employees in private companies were kidnapped and released later for ransoms. Other three of them are still held as hostages.

Concerning the elections, the Ansar al-Sunni army group which is linked to al- Qaida organization threatened to attack all voting ballots in Iraq and warned the Iraqis against approaching the military targets and announced "curfew for three days as from yesterday ( Thursday).

In a statement issued on the Internet, the group warned the Iraqis against taking part in the voting, noting that all centers and its clients will be targets for their attacks.

Meantime, the official in the International organization for immigration Sara Fradgili said that the Iraqi refugees in Britain can cast their votes in the elections due on January 30, 2005 in London and Glasgow.

The organization which was authorized to organize the participation of Iraqi living abroad in the elections contacted 250,000 Iraqi refugees living in Britain, 60% of them are expected to take part in the elections.
