Riyadh is confident to be handed over al-Faqih
Saudi Arabia, Politics, 12/28/2004

One Saudi diplomat in London said yesterday that he is "confident" that Britain will hand over Riyadh the leader of the opposition Saudi Islamic reform movement Saad al-Faqih who lives in London.

The media advisor at the Saudi embassy in London Jamal Khashaqji said that Saudi Arabia is confident that al-Faqih will be handed over by the ultimate end to Saudi Arabia. He added there is enough evidences linking al-Faqih to attacks launched by al-Qaida in the Kingdom.

Britain has not responded to repeated Saudi demanded to handing over al-Faqih alleging that evidence is not present to this end. But the UN Security Council last week added al-Faqih name to the list of persons presumed to have links to al-Qaida at a request of Riyadh and Washington and London. Analysts say that this measure might give the British government a margin to maneuver.

Mustafa Allanim from the Gulf center for research, which takes Dubai as a headquarters, said that this point was a subject of conflict between Saudi Arabia and Britain since a while, adding that Britain might use the UN resolution to bypass its tough rules. He continued that judge has now to consider whether a decision can be issued to evacuate him instead of saying that al-Faqih is guilty or not.
