Israel releases 160 Palestinian prisoners
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 12/28/2004
The Palestinian national authority has played down Israel's release of 160 Palestinian prisoners in an attempt Tel Aviv said is an appreciation for the release of the Israeli spy Azzam Azzam.
Palestinian prisoners affairs minister Hisham Abdul Razzaq said that the release of the prisoners is a fruitful of understanding between Egypt and Israel and has no effect on the relations between the Palestinian authority and Israel.
On the other hand, the chairman of the PLO executive committee Mahmoud Abbas ( Abu Mazin) said that the Palestinians were pleased for the release of the prisoners but he added "he wants the release of the Palestinian detainees who spent years in the Israeli jails." However, most of the released persons are what they described as " security prisoners," with most of their imprisonment penalty having ended. No one, Israel alleges, that their hands are "mixed with blood" was released.
