Moussa: we mediate for solving the Saudi- Libyan differences
Saudi Arabia-Libya, Politics, 12/24/2004

The secretary general of the Arab league (AL) Amr Moussa said yesterday that the Arab League is trying to mediate in the escalated Saudi- Libyan differences which provoked Riyadh on Wednesday to take a decision to withdraw its ambassador from Tripoli and asked the Libyan ambassador in Saudi Arabia to leave the country.

Moussa said that the interference of the AL came at the request of Libya which denied the Saudi accusations to arrange the assassination attempt against the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz. He added "we will work to discuss the case in order to reach a solution for it rather than setting it ablaze," noting that he will visit each of the two states if it is necessary.

Moussa continued that his Aides met independently with the representatives of the two states at the Arab League and "we have heard the position of each state and asked them to provide all necessary information on the crisis." On the other hand, the Jordanian foreign minister Hani al-Malaki said after talks with Moussa in Cairo yesterday "we are worried about this development." He added "I think Saudi Arabia has its own reasons and is always dealing with its Arab commitments sincerely." He continued "we do hope this case will be solved in a way satisfactory for all sides and Saudi Arabia might have its reasons which we respect."
