Rumsfeld in Musil

The US defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld paid a sudden visit to Musil in north Iraq where he had inspected the American base which was exposed to a large attack on Tuesday.

The American defense secretary visited the injured and met with members of the medical team in the military hospital in the base. He said he came to extend thanks to the soldiers on Christmas.

Rumsfeld's visit came while the shock of the operation is still overwhelming in the American military circles, as some 19 American soldiers out of 22 were killed. The greatest number of American soldiers to be killed in one attack in Iraq.

Following the attack, the American army decided to re-evaluate security arrangements in its bases in various parts of Iraq. In addition, measures permitting Iraqi civilians and members of police and national guards to enter the American camps will be reviewed.

The Musil operation which was adopted by Ansar al-Sunni which disclosed a large qualitative change in the armed operations which have not only targeted the American vehicles, rather started attacking soldiers in the heart of their bases. Besides, these operations revealed large security gaps that enabled the armed groups from carrying out a suicide attack inside the dinning hall of the base while the soldiers were having their lunch.

The commander of the American forces in Musil Gen. Carter said that the executor of the operation disguised themselves in Iraqi army uniforms.

Meantime, the soldiers of southern Korea positioned in north Iraq were put in a state of alert after the Korean forces received a warning from the Kurdish regional authorities against an attack by the Sunni supporters army. Some 3600 southern Korean soldiers were deployed in Irbil to carry out humanitarian missions.
