Fahmi: Technology boosts crude oil, output increase
Egypt, Economics, 12/23/2004
Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmi said yesterday that oil and petrochemical industries depend highly on hi-tech and the technological applications that could boost output of oil and natural gas.
The Minister has stressed the necessity of continuous investment in human resources in order to enhance technological creativity.
"The application of modern technologies is vital at every stage in the oil and gas production process," Minister Fahmi told a ceremony held by Malaysian gas company Petroans.
The ceremony was held to award scholarships from the Malaysian firm to 20 top Egyptian Thanawiya Aroma (General Secondary School Certificate) students, which will allow them to study for B.Sc at Malaysia's Petronas University of Technology (UTP).
The 20 students were the winners in Petronas competitions.
Fahmi said that he was proud of these students who "will play a significant role in developing the oil and natural gas industry in the future."
The firm started offering such scholarships in 1998 to top students, in order to help develop human resources in a country where the firm is carrying out projects, Director of Petronas Egypt, Azhar Nour, said.
