Libya regrets the Saudi diplomatic measures against it
Libya-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 12/23/2004
Libya has expressed its strong regret over the decision taken by Saudi Arabia to withdraw its ambassador from Tripoli and expel the Libyan ambassador form the kingdom on the background of accusing Tripoli of involvement in the conspiracy of assassinating the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz.
In a statement, the Libyan foreign ministry said that nothing justifies the Saudi decision and nothing happened between the two states that requires taking such a decision.
The statement of the Libyan foreign ministry said that if Riyadh took its position to what it called "the fabricated accusation which speaks of the assassination attempt of the Saudi crown prince Abdullah, this has been already refuted and it was found out it is groundless." The Libyan foreign ministry renewed denial of any involvement in the Saudi affairs and said it asks the secretary general of the Arab League to investigate in this regrettable matter "until Saudi Arabia reveals the reasons that made it do so."
JANA reported that "If his recall is due to the fabricated accusation, purporting an attempt to assassinate the Saudi Crown Prince, this was refuted, proved baseless, and it was a long time since it was made, so why the ambassador was not recalled then. The only new things that happened these days, are the demonstrations that spread in the Kingdom's cities, called for by Saad al-Faqih and sponsored by the Reform Movement, as well as by the Kingdom's tribes withdrawing their allegiance from the Royal family and paying allegiance to Saad al-Faqih, and the arrests that included thousands of citizens due to this rebellion, and this is an internal affair, what is the connection of Libya to it."
