Three Moroccan ex-Guantanamo detainees get provisional release
Morocco, Local, 12/22/2004
The Court of Appeal of Rabat has granted provisional release to three of the five Moroccan ex-Guantanamo detainees who were handed over last August to Moroccan authorities.
The three men are Redouan. C, 32, Abdellah. T, 49, and Mohamed. O, 29.
The court also decided to postpone to next Monday the hearing in the case after the general prosecutor asked for more time to conduct "additional investigation."
The defendants, who had been arrested by the US military in Afghanistan, were handed over to Moroccan authorities last August 1st.
The court also deferred looking into a defense motion related to the procedures and to the documents on the basis of which the defendants are standing trial.
They are facing counts of belonging to a criminal band, non-denunciation of a crime harming state security, assistance to a criminal band by transferring money to Moroccans with the aim of creating a gang that threatens Morocco's interests and participation in the forging of a passport.
