Mrs. Mubarak meets Kuwaiti intellectuals

Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak yesterday expressed happiness over visiting Kuwait and honoring by the 11th Quraine Cultural Festival that has chosen her as the most distinguished international figure of the year.
Addressing intellectuals at Kuwait University, she praised the deep-rooted and history-honoured relationship between Egypt and Kuwait.
Egypt has been observing with much admiration all the efforts that have been exerted by Kuwait over the past years to develop and modernize itself and to build a more prosperous future for its people, she said.
In her address, Mrs. Mubarak spoke about Egypt's own efforts to develop itself, its new reforms and its ambitions comprehensive welfare programs in addition to its strenuous work to serve Arab interests.
She talked with pride about all the political, social and educational gains that Egyptian women have succeeded to attain over the past two decades.
Mrs. Mubarak is the first woman to be honored by Kuwait's prestigious cultural gala and the festival's supreme committee had said that it chose to honor her for her indelible marks on the Arab world's cultural and social life, citing in particular her "Reading for all" program that had won her world-wide admiration and high esteem.
Sheikha Sabikah Al-Jassem, wife of Kuwaiti Parliament Speaker Jasim Al-Kharafi, said Monday she was proud of Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak as it is the first time Al-Qarine festival has chosen an Arab female figure to be honoured for her major efforts in promoting the role of Arab women.
Sheikh Sabikah told Middle East News Agency ( MENA) that Kuwait always holds Egypt's role in high esteem and that Mrs. Mubarak set a model to be followed by all Arab women.
She voiced hope that Kuwait would be able to hold a 'Reading for all' festival.
Mrs. Mubarak yesterday wrapped up a three-day visit to Kuwait at the invitation of Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahd, the wife of the Gulf state's crown prince.
During her stay in Kuwait, Mrs. Mubarak was received by Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
