Mubarak inquires about oil slick in Suez Canal
Egypt, Environment, 12/21/2004
Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak inquired yesterday about the oil slick in the Suez Canal from the Suez Canal Authority chairman Gen. Ahmed Fadil.
Egypt's Suez Canal authorities contained yesterday the oil slick in the waterway and stopped it from moving towards the Mediterranean city of Port Said.
The slick, which now stretches over five km down from 12 km, leaked last week from a damaged Kuwait oil tanker. About 10,000 cubic meters of crude oil leaked from the Port Said.
Suez Canal's clean-up teams have started pumping out polluted water.
