Activities of the ETF in a Seminar
Syria-European Union, Local, 12/21/2004
Under the patronage of Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Otari, a seminar showcasing the activities of the European Training Foundation (ETF) was opened Monday at Damascus Meridian Hotel.
The first session concentrated on ETF function to develop a co-ordinated system of human resources development in Syria, in addition to improving the institution's capacities to analyze what is happening in the labor market now and anticipate what employers' needs in the future.
It also discussed the project of the industrial education and the project of establishing a Syrian observatory.
In the opening session, Chairman of the State Planning Commission Abdullah al-Dardari stressed importance of training human resources since they are the base for any economic and social development process.
For her part, Manager of the ETF Muriel Dunbar and Chairman of the Economic Cooperation Department at the European Mission in Damascus Andrea Matthew Fontana stressed that Syria and the EU agree that developing human resources is one of the priorities of the reform process in Syria, pointing out to the existing cooperation agreements between both sides.
Later, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Diala Hajj Aref, Dunbar, Fontana and Dardari held a press conference in which they stressed importance of the raised projects in developing capabilities to gather data necessary for the labor market and improving employment.
Aref underlined that her Ministry in cooperation with the State Planning Committee is preparing a study on the employment and fitness between abilities and the needs of the society to create a positive economic climate, asserting the efforts to invest human recourses.
