Egypt's Mufti, al-Qardawi reject Tantawi Fatwa on woman's nomination for presidency
Egypt, Culture, 12/21/2004

Each of the Mufti of Egypt Ali Jum'a and the Islamic scholar Youssef al-Qardawi expressed their objection of the Fatwa issued by al-Azhar Sheikh Mohammed Sayed Tantawi, in which he considered that woman can be nominated for Presidential elections. The "Egyptian today" daily said that Jumaa said that reality has proven that men can run the affairs of rules efficiently and take decisive decisions.

On the other hand, al-Qaradawi said last week that while the woman is unable to play the role of the Mufti, however, she can run in presidential elections. He said woman's passion overwhelms her reason and this fact made her in Islam just equal to "half of a man."
