Iran rejects Europe's request to recognize Israel
Iran-European Union, Politics, 12/21/2004
Iran rejected yesterday the request made by the European Union to recognize Israel and stop supporting the Palestinian organizations as a precondition for improving relations between the two sides.
The spokesman for the Iranian foreign ministry Hamid Rida Asefi said that his country "does not accept any preconditions from any country," noting that this is "Iran's principled policy." He added "Iran's support for the Palestinian organizations is a matter of "spiritual and doctrine nature."
He stressed that the current conflict in Palestine is between those who suffer repression and an aggressive country. Asefi explained that the European Union indicated that responding to such demands "will help expand relations between the two sides, but we do not accept this and consider that Europe's disregards of facts encourages more Israeli aggressions against the Palestinians."
Meantime, one of the nuclear negotiators in Iran Hussein Musayan said that Tehran and the European Union will start talks by the beginning of January over handing over Iran a reactor that works on light water.
