Libyan mediation efforts in Sudan
Sudan-Libya, Politics, 12/21/2004

In Nigeria's capital Abuja, a Libyan delegation is leading mediation efforts of the African Union. The delegation held talks with representatives for the Sudanese government and the rebels in an attempt to convince them to stop the fighting in Darfur and resume the negotiations.

Both the Sudan's Liberation Movement and al-Adel Wal Musawat ( Justice and equity) withdrew from Abuja talks after a short period of their resumption, 8 days ago, saying that the government forces should return back to their positions before Njamina agreement in April before the negotiations start.

A spokesman for the African Union announced that it was decided to give Libya more time to convince the warring sides to resume the talks and that it was not decided yet to submit the file to the UN Security Council.
