Moussa: Mubarak's warning on attacking Iran reflects strategic vision
Regional-Iran, Politics, 12/20/2004

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa hailed Egypt's call to hold a conference in Sharm el-Sheikh next March, due to be attended by the G-8, to discuss developments and reforms in the Middle East.

Following talks with Maltese Foreign Minister Michael Frendo, Moussa denied contradiction between Egypt's call and the meeting of the "Forum for the Future," recently held in Rabat.

The Arab League chief described President Mubarak's warning against attacking Iran as important because it reflects a strategic vision on possibility of launching attacks on Syria or Iran or eruption of a new military conflict in the region.

The pan-Arab body chief cast doubts on any changes in the Israeli policies against the Palestinians.

Moussa added that the British initiative on holding an international conference on the Middle East peace process is not yet drawn up, stressing that the meeting only aims at looking into means to offer assistance to the Palestinians to maintain security in Gaza Strip following the proposed Israeli withdrawal from the area.
