Kuwait, Politics, 12/20/2004
A new political movement has emerged on the political scene in Kuwait under the name "al-Adala Wal- Tanmiyah" (justice and development). The movement was formed by a number of young media people and academics."
Kuwaiti journalist Nasser Youssef al-Abdali -- one of the movement's founders -- said that its aim is to develop the political life and take part in establishing a genuine and free democratic society in which justice and equal opportunities are provided among citizens regardless to their ethnic and racial affiliation.
Al-Abdali indicated that the political forces working in Kuwait are currently in a stalemate and reached the extent it is unable to meet the interests of people and reflect their ambitions.
The new movement called for rebuilding the establishments of the civil society and giving them key role. It also called for political pluralism and authority transfer.
At least four Islamic movements and three liberal political groups are working openly in Kuwait where political parties are banned. Most of the groups are represented in the country's parliament which includes 50 elected parliamentarians.
