Abbas wraps up visit to UAE, arrived in Jordan

Chairman of the Palestine Liberation organization PLO Mahmoud Abbas has briefed President of the United Arab Emirates UAE Sheikh Khaleifa Bin Zayed al-Nahyan on the situation in the Palestinian territories and the exerted efforts to make the elections next month.

Abbas was due to have had arrived in Jordan on Sunday evening in conclusion of a tour in the six Gulf Cooperation Council GCC member states. He is expected to brief officials there on the results of his tour.

On the other hand, the Palestinian communities in the Diaspora called for convening a meeting for the Palestinian National Council in order to revitalize the PLO's establishments and amend its set programs to cope with the current phase.

They, in a statement, called on the Palestinian leadership to announce before the presidency elections, a date for carrying out democratic elections for the national council that coincides with the elections for the legislative council and the municipal and rural councils.

The statement which was undersigned by representatives for the Palestinian communities in the world on the need to find out a formula for an agreed upon national program, "based on the unwavering Palestinian principles."
