Entry into force Dec.18 of Industrial Property Law in Morocco

The entry into force tomorrow Saturday of the Industrial Property Law, ushers a new era for Morocco as regards protection of the rights of the inventors, of the innovators and of the creators, affirmed, in Casablanca Thursday the Minister of Industry, Trade and Economy Upgrading.

Salaheddine Mezouar whose remarks were read on his behalf at a national seminar to discuss this matter, said this meeting is part of efforts to raise awareness among economic operators on this new law, underlining the importance the protection of patent rights plays in the growth of international trade.

He pointed out that the patent rights are an effective means for encouraging creation and innovation, and pledge Morocco's commitment to update its legal arsenal, in particular in the field of the right of the businesses in order to put in place adequate legal tools which contribute to the development of businesses and the increase of investments.

This law which was recognized by the Intellectual Property depending on the World Trade Organization (WTO), envisages a duration of 20 years protection for the patents of invention, 10 years for the diagrams of configuration (topographies) of integrated circuits, 10 years renewable indefinitely for the labels and 5 years renewable twice for the draftsmanships.
