Six Palestinians killed in continued Israeli invasion of Gaza
Palestine-Israel, Military, 12/18/2004
Four Palestinians were killed by the bullets of the Israeli forces during its continued invasion of Khan Younis camp and the Austrian quarters to the south of Gaza, thereby the number of Palestinians killed in this operation since yesterday at dawn reached six.
News reports in Gaza said that the Palestinians Shadi al-Haddad ( 24 years old), Islam al-Narbis ( 21 years old) and Khaled Abu Obeid ( 22 years old) died because of their wounds in the head fired by Israeli snipers, while positioned over the roofs of the camp's buildings. A fourth Palestinian whose identity was not revealed yet also died. The reports added that the number of wounded persons in the invasion increased to 20 including five in critical health conditions.
Earlier in the day on Friday, two Palestinians, one of them is Rami Abu Saadah, one of the field leaders in Abu al-Reish groups of the Fatah movement, and Saeed Abu al-Saeed were killed and a third was injured by the bullets of the Israeli snipers.
A Palestinian security source said that the Israeli forces backed by scores of tanks and armored vehicles have not stopped fire and artillery bombardment since the beginning of the incursion operation yesterday at dawn against houses of the Palestinians in the Austrian quarters and the western part of the adjoining Khan Younis camp.
The source indicated that the occupation forces forced, by the artillery bombardment, more than 20 families to evacuate their houses in the camp and the military bulldozers started demolishing of these houses. Witnesses said that 150 persons with most of them children and women left their houses in the camp and gathered yesterday morning at the gate of Naser Hospital in Khan Younis.
One Israeli military spokesman said that the operation -- which was called "the orange steel" and lasting for several days -- aims at preventing firing of mortars from that camp against the nearby Jewish settlements.
