Terrorism not exclusive to Moroccan society, Minister

"Terrorism is a world phenomenon that is not exclusive to the Moroccan society, or to Moslem societies," said Moroccan Justice Minister, Mohamed Bouzoubaa.

In an interview published Thursday by "Aujourd'hui le Maroc" daily, Bouzoubaa called for stopping amalgam between Islam and "these barbaric acts."

Morocco is "decided to honor its commitments" with regard to combating world terrorism, he pointed out, citing as an example cooperation between Rabat and Madrid.

According to the minister, Moroccan-Spanish judicial collaboration was strengthened after the terrorist attacks that hit Madrid last March 11, claiming the lives of nearly 200 people.

The two sides have been cooperating and exchanging information since the attacks, he said, recalling the extradition of three Moroccans, held in Spain, suspected of involvement in the terrorist attacks that rocked Casablanca in May 2003, killing 45 people.

He added that Morocco signed accords on judicial cooperation with Spain and the Netherlands regarding "criminal affairs where Moroccans are involved in the two countries, and on crimes committed by Spanish and Dutch nationals in Morocco."

Last Monday, Spanish Prime Minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, expressed before the parliamentary commission that is investigating Madrid attacks, gratefulness to Morocco and several other countries for their collaboration with Spain against international terrorism.
