One American soldier killed, 14 injured; clashes renewed in Falluja

Violent confrontations erupted in Falluja city on Sunday between the American forces and the gunmen in the city amid an intensive American air bombardment.

News reports said that confrontations which are the most violent since two weeks started yesterday morning in the eastern part of the city and covered the quarters of al-Askari, al-Senai, al-Shuhadaa and al-Jbeil.

The city was also exposed to intensive bombardment by tanks artillery from outside the city and clashes are still continuous in the southern and eastern parts of Falluja.

Witnesses said that humanitarian conditions are greatly deteriorated and that bodies of the dead are still scattered in the streets and parts of the city are covered with water after the destruction of its water station.

To the west of Baghdad, one American soldier was killed in clashes with gunmen in al-Anbar governorate where large confrontations are taking place between the American forces and the gunmen.

In al-Ramadi city, American military sources said that gunmen in the city's hospital attacked one American patrol, but officials in the hospital denied these accusations.

In Baghdad, violent confrontations are taking place between the American forces and gunmen in Haifa street in the downtown of the city.

The American forces are intensively deployed in the area which often witness confrontations with gunmen.

In Baqouba to the south east of Baghdad, the American forces said that in collaboration with the Iraqi police, it detained more than 50 Iraqis from different areas in the city.

Gunmen intensified their attacks yesterday at the American and Iraqi forces and this resulted in killing five police officers and injuring other 14 American soldiers in various attacks in the north of Iraq.

A booby trapped car explosion and an ambush resulted in injuring 8 soldiers in Musil city and after that an American jet dropped a half ton bomb at a position in the city.

Two American soldiers were injured in a booby trapped car explosion in Beiji quarters and other two in a similar attack in Karkouk city, while two two were injured in al-Hweijeh area near Karkouk.

Three Iraqi police officers were killed including the director of operation in Salah Eddine governorate. Six members of the Iraqi police were injured in two ambushes in al-Sherqat city of the governorate to the north of Baghdad. After this attack, gunmen opened fire at a police patrol and this resulted in killing one police officer and wounding two others.
