Maghreb Arab Union consultations

"In line with the urgent consultations and contacts currently underway among Arab Maghreb Union member states, following the statement by the General People's Committee for Foreign Liaison and International Co-operation on (Libya) relinquishing the presidency of the Union, Tunisian News agency reported that President Zine al-Abdin Ben Ali and President Abdul Aziz Butfliqa of Algeria exchanged points of view on issues related to the progress of the Arab Maghreb Union, on the phone yesterday" JANA reported.

Jana added "The agency indicated that President Zine al-Abdin Ben Ali confirmed in this respect to continue support efforts to activate the Union's structures and institutions for the interests of the peoples of the region."

JANA said "President Zine al-Abdin Bin Ali of Tunisia conducted a phone call with the Leader of the Revolution Wednesday evening . In his phone call, President Ben Ali expressed to the Leader his profound concern and worry vis-a-vis the content of the statement, about (Libya's) relinquishing of the presidency of the Union."
