Egyptian-French team discovers earth's largest meteoric field
Egypt-France, Local, 12/11/2004
An Egyptian-French team has found the largest field of meteorites on the Earth some 300 kilometers southwest of Egypt's Al-Dakhla Oasis. Initial estimates indicate that the field's total area is about 4,500 square kilometers.
Essam Heggi, the leader of the Egyptian search team, said that their successful discovery, was due to the state-of-the- art radar-built photographing technology.
The Egyptian scientist, who is also a researcher at the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), said the ground-shaking finding will pave the way for more discoveries on other planets like Mars.
