Regional, Politics, 12/11/2004
The Civil Society Forum, held in parallel to the "Forum for the Future" that is organized on Dec. 10-11 in Rabat, prepared on Thursday recommendations to be submitted to the Forum.
The recommendations concern reforms and democracy in the Middle East and North Africa.
This meeting, held in Rabat, groups Arab and international human rights-advocacy organizations and representatives of the civil society from 15 Arab states.
The meeting is organized by the International Federation for Human Rights, the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Human Rights, Cairo Center for Human Rights and the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights in cooperation with the World Bank and the European Delegation.
Debates focused on boosting reforms in the Middle East region, particularly with regard to democratic transition, the promotion of human rights and the civil society involvement in this process. The goal is to give a new impetus to the internal process of reform and endeavor to oppose foreign interference in this realm.
The Civil Society Forum comes as complementary to the meetings held by organizations of the civil society on reform, including the Beirut and Cairo conferences.
