Kul al-Arab: Syrian prisoner in Israeli jail suffers health deterioration
Syria-Israel, Politics, 12/11/2004

The health situation of the Syrian prisoner in Israeli jail Hayel Abu Zaid has seriously deteriorated as Israel turned down all calls to set him free after medical exams showed he had life-threatening leukemia, Palestinian Kul al-Arab newspaper stressed Friday.

The paper quoted a statement by the Committee for the Support of Prisoners and Detainees in the Occupied Syrian Golan as saying that Abu Zaid's health situation worsened as a result of denying him the needed medical treatment over the past two years.

It added that the Syrian prisoner complained about his health deterioration but medics at Israeli jail service offered him no medicine or treatment.

The Committee statement said that Abu Zaid was taken unconscious from his prison cell to Affoula hospital in Palestine five days ago, and then transferred to Haifa hospital where he was diagnosed as having advanced leukemia.
