Lebanese president confers with U.S. Congress

President Emile Lahoud of Lebanon on Friday underscored importance of cooperation between Syria and Lebanon for enhancing stability in the region.
Meeting a delegation of the U.S. Congress headed by Senator Robert Ney, President Lahoud reviewed the "sacrifices offered by Syria to help Lebanon maintain its unity and territorial integrity and rebuild the national Lebanese army and other state instututions."
The Lebanesse President asserted that the two states are bound by one sound strategy and pan-Arab stances for the best benefits of the two sides.
He added that Syria and Lebanon had always announced commitment to the Middle East peace process based on the UN resolutions on the region.
President Lahoud held Israel responsible for the failure of all peace initiatives that emerged over the past few years, pointing out to the Arab peace initiative adopted by the Beirut Arab summit in 2002.
