Israeli occupation forces return back to Khan Younis, PA deplores insulting Presidential candidates
Palestine-Israel, Military, 12/11/2004

The Israeli army armored vehicles were deployed in the outskirts of Khan Younis to the south of Gaza. These vehicles backed by helicopters started attacks coming from Nefe Dekalim settlement where four Israelis were injured earlier by shelling fired by the Palestinian men.

An Israeli military source said that after the Palestinian shelling was fired, the Israeli defense minister Shaoul Mofaz permitted his forces to moveto in the outskirts of Khan Younis.

News reports had talked about injuring 6 Israeli settlers two of them are in a critical health condition as one Palestinian shelling fell at Nefe Dekalim settlement.

Al-Nasser Salah Eddine groups, the military wing of the Palestine people's resistance committee, adopted responsibility for bombarding the Israeli Sdeirout settlement to the north of Gaza with Nasser-3 missile in retaliation to the failed assassination attempt against the commander of the committees Jamal Abu Samhadaneh by blowing up his car in Rafah on Thursday. During the attack he was injured with two of his escorts.

On the other hand, the chairman of the PLO executive committee Mahmoud Abbas condemned the aggressions carried out by the Israeli occupation forces against two candidates for the Palestinian presidency at military checkpoints.

Abbas telephoned the two candidates Bassam al-Salihi and Mustafa al-Barghouthi to learn about their health conditions as they were exposed to "oppressive acts" by the occupation forces.

The Israeli forces on Friday detained the Presidential candidate for al-Shaab party Bassan al-Salehi for hours after he was arrested at the suburb's entrance at the entrance of occupied Jerusalem.

The Israeli police released al-Salehi at a guarantee saying it intends to accuse him of entering illegally Jerusalem. The Israeli police also alleged that he had attacked the police men when he was banned from entering Jerusalem under the pretext he had not a permit to enter the city.

This, however, came one day of a similar attack by the occupation forces against the Palestinian independent president candidate Mustafa Barghouthi who was also injured and admitted to hospital.
