Five officials from the Somali government resigned

One day after announcing the formation of the new Somali government, one minister of state and four assistants for ministers yesterday announced their resignation from their posts.

In a press conference in Nairobi, the assistant minister of information Abdullah Ali -- one of the resigned members -- announced that the number of the current government is very big for a small state which has not yet got out of the consequences of war.

He said that "it is unpractical, financially," noting that it is better to invest these sums in works of rebuilding, and fields of health and education.

The Somali government, however, is composed of 80 members including 31 ministers and the others are assistant for ministers or state ministers.

It is believed that the Somali government was formed on that large scale in order to contain all warring groups in Somalia along the past 13 years.

During the few past months, Somalia elected a parliament; a president and a prime minister. The Somali parliament holds its session in Kenya because of the loss of security in its country on the hope of transferring the leadership to Mogadishu next year.
