Pope Shenouda III of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark and the Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt, and Patriarch Zakka I Iwas of the Syriac Orthodox in the World on Tuesday visited Sheikh Ahmad Kaftarou Foundation in Damascus along with a large church delegation.
Pope Shenouda and the other guests met many Moslem clergymen at the Foundation where both sides underscored importance of communication and dialogue among civilizations and Christian and Islamic faiths.
Speakers in the meeting asserted the role of enlightened clergymen in fighting evils, social and moral vice through cooperation and coordination among religious and educational references to establish the common moral values and real humanitarian fraternity and tolerance.
The Pope stressed Syria's importance as an example to be followed for the whole world in terms of coexistence and tolerance among religions.
He expressed great pleasure over visiting Syria, and highly praised the Syrian people, wishing them more progress and prosperity. The meeting was attended by the Egyptian Ambassador in Damascus Hazem Kheirat and the embassy staff.
