Damascus meeting of the Arab Boycott office of Israel
Regional-Israel, Economics, 12/7/2004
The Damascus-based Arab Office for the Boycott of Israeli ( OABI) focused in its Monday's 73rd Conference on the Israeli infiltration into Iraq and on how to tackle companies that violated regulations of the boycott.
The General Commissioner for the Boycott and Chairman of the Conference Ahmad al-Oudat pointed out in an opening speech to the importance of the boycott in the Arab-Israeli conflict as this reaction constitutes a key factor in supporting the struggle led by the Palestinian people in resisting the occupation and the systematic acts of terrorism perpetrated by Israeli authorities against them.
The Conference is attended by Heads and Liaison Officers representing regional offices from 19 Arab states as well as representatives from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Conference ( OIC).
Oudat added that the Arab boycott of Israel will remain an influential tool and strong backer to the Palestinian people till the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as capital and the restoration of all the occupied Arab territories, including the Syrian Golan and Southern Lebanon.
He said that bids by the occupation forces to prepare for the infiltration of Israeli companies in the Iraqi market is an evidence of Israel's destructive policy which aims at damaging the region's security and stability.
He pointed out that Israeli infiltration into Iraq is a temporary phase doomed to end once security has been restored to Iraq and its sovereignty and independence observed.
For his part, Director of the Syrian Office for the Boycott of Israel Mohammad al-Ajami said the meeting in Damascus is held under difficult conditions where daily repressive practices are perpetrated in Palestine and Iraq.
He said the boycott constitutes a powerful weapon which has influential effect on the Israeli economy, and is considered a demand by Arab masses in reaction to Israel's policies and its rejection to establish the sought-for just and comprehensive peace in the region.
