Cairo-Ethiopia sign $50 million meat import agreement
Egypt-Ethiopia, Economics, 12/6/2004
Egyptian and Ethiopian companies signed Saturday in Addis Ababa a $50 million agreement to import meat products from Ethiopia, a source at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.
The agreement stipulates that Ethiopia would provide Egypt with livestock or beef meat for two years, and that Egyptian companies would build a mechanized slaughterhouse and rehabilitate another four in Ethiopia.
The deal is part of cooperation between the two countries, members of the Nile Basin Initiative.
Egyptian ministers are to visit Ethiopia soon as part of efforts to boost cooperation with the African country. Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit's visit to Ethiopia on Sunday is part of these efforts, the source added.
