Mubarak discusses Palestinian, Iraqi issues with US congress delegation

President Hosni Mubarak received yesterday in Sharm el- Sheikh US Senator Joseph Biden and his accompanying delegation and the meeting was attended by the US Ambassador in Cairo David Welch. Biden appreciated efforts by the government on the Palestinian and Iraqi arenas.
The Democrat Senator said that Egyptian efforts to close Palestinian ranks and set the stage for the upcoming elections in the Palestinian territories and the establishment of a Palestinian state were highly regarded by the US.
President Spokesman, Maged Abdel Fattah, said that the recent developments in the Palestinian arena and Egyptian efforts to help Palestinians unify their ranks, were on the agenda of talks. The meeting dwelt also on bilateral ties and exchange of visits, he added.
A delegation of US Democrat senators is expected in Cairo within the coming few weeks to discuss bilateral ties and regional affairs, Abdel Fattah said.
He added that the meeting also tackled the latest developments of the peace process and means to store security and stability to Iraq and the exerted efforts to carry out the UN resolution no 1546 as well as Sharm el-Sheikh conference recommendations on Iraq.
